Dear World

 Dear world,

How remarkable that you and I
Differ significantly in the way we cry

You moan at the thought of missing flights,
But as a Palestinian I have no rights!
Within these roads, we are deeply patrolled
Your entitlement has made you cold!

 You panic-buy, and empty shelves
 Every man is for themselves!
A Yemeni child couldn’t fathom the thought
Of the gluttony in all you’ve bought!

Your studies came to an abrupt halt
And you’re focused on who’s at fault
But deep within the Syrian regime
 Studying is a distant dream!

You’re being told to stay at home
And the isolation is making you feel alone
But Kashmir’s lockdown is strict and scary
 Oh, how our priorities vary

You’re holding back from visiting the old
Because that is what you’re being told
But in Iraq, I lost my family in war
 Why are you complaining for?

You miss going out, knowing you’re free
Embracing exactly who you wish to be
In Uyghur, I find myself on my knees
In this darkness, I pray for the morning breeze

See the world is different for you and I,
I’ve seen so much that my eyes are dry
But as you’re exposed to the realities we face
I hope you carry yourself with a little grace

 Dear world,

How remarkable that you and I
Differ significantly in the way we cry
